For those keeping score, this was what I wrote down in my moleskine yesterday at the Glendale In N Out:
I was living in the Gdale, pre-Disney, slave wagin’ it up at the now ghost town Borders and Brand bookshop simultaneously. 5 years ago. I was at this very In N Out w/ my pal (and fellow Borders employee) Steven, when I came up w/ the idea for my cartoon, Samurai Nanny. The World’s Greatest (and Only) Samurai Babysitter. Since then, it’s gone thru many changes, many execs and cartoon companies have expressed interest in Sam Nan. I have strengthened and gained friendships because of it. I have lost friends over it. 5 years is a long time to live w/ an unfulfilled idea. It’s time I set the Samurai loose for y’all to see! I’m thinking about returning to the original storyline, Samurai Nanny’s heart, the core of his tale. Producing it as a comic book/graphic novel.

Here is a great Samurai Nanny animated promo by the equally great animator (and good friend) Avi Tuchman!
Click this to see Samurai Nanny in Action!
Avi co-wrote, co-directed, and animated this promo as a pitch accompaniment for yours truly. Terrific music by Brian Barrale, and sfx by Michael Schmidt.
Thanks Avi, Brian, and Mike! No one’s seen this before, so let us know what you think in the comments!
Yesterday, I did a series of Live tweets around Silverlake & Glendale on my main account, Lumber. This was part of it.
Getting ready for tomorrow’s Film Shark (he’s reviewing Conan the Barbarian (1982) btw), I came across this little doodle of Filmie’s very first appearance!
My girlfriend Ava noticed it, while flipping thru a sketchbook collection of my NEWvember/DRAWcember comics I did back in 2009, which featured the very first Film Shark comic!
Sure enough a couple of pages before his debut comic was this lone little panel of a teeny, cute shark that would eventually become Film Shark, America’s Greatest Film Critic EVER!
I thought it’d be fun to share this w/ ya Finheads before tomorrow’s comic drops!
Also, be sure to check out Film Shark’s animated debut in JimmForce’s Shark Night 3D Review! Starring Whit Hertford as Film Shark!
Film Shark Reviews the web show coming sooooon btw!!! Oh Yea, Dudeskis!
As always:
Warning NSFW: Film Shark has severe Potty Mouth. You are warned.

Hey Finheads!
Just a heads up that there will not be a new film shark this week (BOO! amirite?) as this is a crazy week for me. A friend’s wedding this weekend, etc.
BUT- you will get an animated surprise! I can’t say much at the moment, but in the meantime y’all can go check out this placeholder Film Shark Reviews Youtube channel I slapped together earlier today.
Feel free to subscribe.
It was inspired in part by my pal Pen Ward, creator of Adventure Time on Cartoon Network! He wrote me today about Film Shark, and it was pretty cool of him to take some time out of his whacked out schedule to do that.
Here’s some of what he said:
“wohhhh yeah man. film shark! that’s a great idea jeaux. i hope this takes off. I wanna see short animated reviews of Film Shark bashing movies or talking about how great they are..”
Thanks Pen! I hope so too buddy!
Suggest a Film Review Suggestion!
Next Week: Conan The Barbarian (1982)!
Film Shark Test Animation 2! (by jeaux janovsky)
I added a sound clip to Film Shark and made him talk, along with a few sfx and a hastily thrown together bg.
Came out neat!!!Can you guess the actor & film? Reblog and tell us in the comments!
Film Shark Animation Test!
Just a little something I threw together to see if it’d work.
It’s ALIVE!
ps- no voices or sounds yet. I was thinking about just recording the sound of myself splashing in my bathroom sink for water sfx. What kind of a voice do you guys picture him to have?
Doing research on Tex Avery for Original Cartoon Heroes, and I cannot for the life of me find any good photos of him online. Too small, or he’s looking away from the camera. I even tried my local library branch, but the 2 books I needed are in Reference and not available for check out. Bummed!
Luckily, Fred is ordering me the books off of Amazon! Thanks Fred! :)
In the meantime, here are a few studies of Tex I did.

Betty Boop art originally posted April 7th, 2008 for Channel Frederator.
Got Betty Boop on my mind tonite as I’m working on Original Cartoon Heroes.
She was a cutie patoot!
my version just makes her look all drugged out, but at least she’s a cutie drugged out patoot!
For those of you not in the know, I’ve been working on a dream freelance project w/ Fred Seibert of Frederator on a postcard tribute series, named Original Cartoon Heroes.
Fred & I came up with a list of Animation Legends, and I’m very proud to pay tribute & give homage to these Greats in my style.
Above you will see my studies for Ralph Bakshi. The only one of the list who is still with us, still painting, still drawing, still stirring the Animation stew (and adding a lot of pepper and hot sauce while he’s at it!)
Ralph Bakshi is a hero of mine, and I am pleased to say that he’s using an early incarnation of my Original Cartoon Heroes tributes as his personal Facebook Avatar still! For that, I am honored beyond belief!
I can’t wait to share the new version I’ve done w/ him!
Thank you Ralph.
Thank you Fred.
Thanks to Cartoons.
