Here’s an Original Cartoon Heroes sketch study of Joe Barbera of Hanna Barbera. It’s been tough trying to capture his likeness, as this one can attest to.
Close, but no cigar Janovsky.
Back to the drawing board!

Seeing as Fred posted about Ralph Bakshi earlier on the Fred-blogs, it got Bakshi on my brain.
Here is an early incarnation of the Original Cartoon Heroes featuring Ralph Bakshi.
Back in 2010, I posted the image of Bakshi on my blog wishing him a Happy Birthday, which subsequently got re-posted on the popular animation news site Cartoon Brew.
I went one step further and posted it on my Facebook page, and also posted it to Ralph’s Facebook page not thinking much would happen with it.
It turned out that Ralph really dug the image and ended using it (still is!) as his personal Facebook avatar!
I can’t express how proud I am of this, and I can only hope he (and you guys) will dig the new version I’ve done for the OCH project!
Keep those “Tex Avery eyes” tooned in here on Lunch Break,

Testing out the new Tumblr photoset layouts w/ some great cartoon research books I’m using for my Original Cartoon Heroes tribute project.

Check out the inside of Bill Hanna’s A Cast of Friends… It’s personally signed by him! That made me sad when I picked up the book fom my local library. :(

Tex Avery: King of Cartoons was a doozy to get into my hands. But thankfully, Fred scored me a copy. Thanks Fred!
